Volunteers are vital to every single program Faith House offers, from staffing the crisis line to assisting victims in obtaining orders of potection at the Lafayette Parish Courthouse. Volunteers co-facilitate counseling groups and mentor our youngest of domestic violence victims, the child witnesses to this crime. The countless hours contributed by these dedicated people allow the message of Faith House to be communicated to thousands of citizens throughout the Lafayette Parish area at community events and organization meetings, health fairs and prevention education programs at schools, and through mailings prepared throughout the year that reach thousands more.

Ways to Volunteer

Faith House has many opportunities to volunteer with our program. Volunteers help make the shelter run smoother. We are always in need of more volunteers.

Children’s Volunteer

  • Tuesday night playroom volunteer (5pm-8pm)
  • Monday and Tuesday the staff has a meeting at 1 p.m. and help is needed in the playroom. The meeting lasts 1 - 3 hours
  • Help for Speacial Occasions
  • Baby-sit for mothers as needed
  • Help in the playroom for children too young to attend field trips.

Client Advocacy

  • Volunteer Attorney - to help with child custody cases.
  • Transport clients
  • Create projects and games for women and children on weekends

Shelter Volunteers

  • Office Volunteers - Write out donor thank you cards, filing, shreding and miscellaneous office duties, making phone calls. (8 am to 4 pm weekedays)
  • Wardrobe Helpers - Help in the wardrobe room organizing clothes and sorting through donations. (8 am to 4 pm weekdays)
  • Make copies / Write thank you notes
  • Log / Organize supplies
  • Donations Pick Ups - Picking up donations and bringing them to the shelter
  • Bridge Storage Donation Acceptance - Reciving and sorting through donations. (Monday and Wednesday from 9 am to 2 pm, Shifts of at least one hour)
  • Shelter Clean Up Day - Need volunteers for our shelter clean up day, we clean the entire shelter including the yard, rooms, playroom, kitchen, living and dining room.

Maintenance Volunteer

  • General cleaning, help with preparing food (2 - 6 p.m.)
  • Help cleaning the playroom, courtyard and yardwork
  • Change light bulbs / Air filters
  • Cleaning (wipe walls, dust etc)

Miscellaneous Volunteer

  • Help with special projects
  • Fundraisers (Queen’s Gala, Golf Tournaments, Special Events)

Meal Volunteer

  • Bring ingredients for a meal once a month
